Structure and function in amoebae

At the other end of the scale of life's to humans are amoebae. This topic takes a quick look at amoebae as an example of a simple but efficient life form.

An amoeba is a microscopic single celled living thing found in water, damp soil or even inside other living things. Although consisting of only one cell, the structure of amoeba allows it to carry out all the functions of more complex animals made of thousands of cells. Amoebae do not have specialised organs to carry out all of their functions, instead parts inside the cell carry out the functions. The following diagrams show how amoebae move, feed and reproduce. It is all done very simply!
