  • Orion Arm
The solar neighbourhood is part of the group of stars called the Orion Arm. The Orion Arm is a giant curve shaped out of stars, huge clouds of dust and glowing gases. This is the part of the Milky Way galaxy that we see in the southern sky.

  • Milky Way
The Orion Arm is just one of the arms of a huge group of about three hundred thousand million stars called the Milky Way.

  • Local Group of Galaxies
The Milky Way is second largest of the twenty galaxies in the Local Group of Galaxies.

  • Virgo super cluster
Our Local Group of Galaxies is part of a huge group of galaxies called the Virgo Super Cluster. It takes light a few hundred million years to cross from one side of the Virgo Super cluster to the other.
